About the event
THE WISDOM OF ANANSE: CERAMIC SCULPTURES
BY ALEX AWUKU
Guest Curator, Dr. Rebecca M. Nagy
Exhibit Dates - February 13 - August 29, 2026
The works in this exhibition belong to a new series inspired by Ghanian folktales about Ananse the spider, whose knowledge and insights into the human condition are, Awuku fears, at risk of being lost in the digital age.
Alex Awuku is a graduate MFA student at the University of Florida from Ghana. During his time at UF, Awuku has produced a large body of works ranging from small-scale to monumental. The conceptual foundation for his works lies in his experiemnce as a Ghanian, an immigrant to the U.S. and a person of deep spirituality.
