The Gullah Geechee are the regionally isolated community of African Americans that stretches from Coastal Florida to southern North Carolina, defined by a distinctive dialect and artwork that strongly echoes their West African heritage. This exhibit provides glimpses deep into history and Gullah Geechee traditions, inlcuding quilting, basket weaving and wood carving. Come immerse yourself in the beauty and physical details of a variety of items made for everyday use. This outstanding exhibit showcases artifacts, documents and memorabilita from the collection of Willis Hakim Jones, a Savannah-based collector.
