The exhibit, "Painted Roots: Images of Black Southern Life - An Exhibition of Art by Ernest Lee," is now on view at the Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center. Curated by a team that includes UF Staff and Museum Studies students, this exhibit will be up until January 20, 2026. The late Ernest Lee (1962-2021) “was known as a folk artist and was often called Florida’s Van Gogh because of his robust impasto style with rich and vibrant colors. He really enjoyed painting country scenes from his youth and was considered an art whisperer for people, as he helped them recapture their childhood memories through painting.” (from his obituary, Gainesville Sun, Dec. 2, 2021).
