About the event

The conversation will center around issues of African American history and historic preservation in general and also reflect on issues in Gainesville specifically, inlcuding challenges to receiving acknowledgement in the form of historical markers for buildings, preservation of buildings with significance to the Civil Rights movment, and confronting gentrification.

Preservation leaders from Gainesville's historic African American communitites are invited to participate in the dialogue. Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask questions. Light refreshments will be served.

Mr. Leggs will also present a talk at 2:00PM on September 23 at the UF Smathers Library. The subject will be Preserving the Galaxy of Black Landmarks is an act of Racial Justice.
